Peter:

Sharing exactly your concerns and taking all the supplements you mention, I have long been taking 3mg of copper a day as a supplement. I also take a lot of zink which competes with the copper. Have you seen my supplement regimen linked to in the main post above? Like you, I have no idea if the additional copper is needed or is the right amount. My skin appears to be great as do all my other health indicators. At some point I might do a trace mineral blood test, something you might want to think about given your concern.

In your list of important micornutrients is copper. I've started researching it because I suspect a copper deficiency due to the large number chelating supplements I take - resveratrol, ALA, etc... My dietary intake is about 2 mg/d, as a rough estimate, and with no easy means to know how much is in my blood I'm a little concerned. What clued me into this are negative skin changes over the last 6 months since I ramped up intake if resvertrol (to 100 mg/d from 40), ALA, and quercetin. And as of yet I have no data to indicate how much copper is removed by these supplements or whether the body is smart eough to keep a reserve.

I could not agree with you more on the basic thrust of what you are saying. You might check on the Lifestyle Regimen in my treatise, at
http://www.vincegiuliano.name/Antiagingfirewalls.htm#Lifestyleregimen. As I see it, the lifestyle activities are necessary for achieving a very long life but might not be sufficient by themselves. For example, the supplement regimen contains a number of essential micronutrients that moight or might not be present in suficient quantities even in a well-balanced diet.

Anti aging remedies have become wide spread and easily accessible for those who seek them, I think it’s important that people keep in mind that a healthy lifestyle including diet and exercising is just as effective as any remedies out there.
